Country wine or fruit wine is a traditional English term for a fermented beverage made from fruit other than grapes, or from other types of plant. Traditional English country wine ingredients include blackcurrant, cowslip, dandelion, elderberry, and gooseberry. Mead and cider are sometimes considered "country wine" as well.

Making country wine

There are two basic types of country wine. Country wines made with fruit can take most or all of their fermentable sugars from the fruit itself, in the same way as grape wine. Country wines flavored with flowers, nuts, or spices need an external source of sugar; table sugar is the most common source of fermentables for country wine. Wine made with vegetables may fall into either category.
